Andrea Fernández Gómez

Scientist

Originally from Algeciras in southern Spain, Andrea brings a strong background in spatial data analysis, environmental mapping, and habitat modeling. She holds a Master's in Genetics and Evolution and a Degree in Biology from the University of Granada, alongside specialized training in Python programming, PyQGIS, and cybersecurity. Before joining Vizzuality, she worked as a Senior Technician at Tragsatec, focusing on native and invasive plant species, nature restoration plans, and spatial data for the Natura 2000 network.

At Vizzuality, Andrea works as a Data Scientist in the Science team, using Python, R, and QGIS to process large datasets and generate spatial insights for our social and environmental projects.

Outside of work, Andrea is a lover of life: she enjoys tending to her vegetable garden, reading novels and manga, practicing crochet, listening to music, walking in the countryside and exploring local wildlife. She also loves tinkering with hardware and old furniture, trying new recipes (like her famous Lasagna Gyozas), and exploring abandoned sites such as abandoned military bases around Algeciras.
