Try and something will stick. Don’t and the only thing stuck will be you
Alex is a multi-talented Communications Specialist, with expertise in sustainability and science communication. Whether it is creating content or strategizing campaigns, you will often find Alex at the heart of it. His storytelling skills bring a new dimension to the projects we work on. He is fascinated by Vizzuality’s subject matter, linking NGO, public and private sector work with environmental and data science to create tools that can be used to fight climate change and biodiversity loss.
Alex’ communications experience encompasses many topics, ranging from open source and open data solutions to environmental, health and science communications. His most fulfilling roles have been when he directly saw the impact of his work, such as at Jacaranda Health, a maternal health care provider in Kenya, and for the news startup Discors in Silicon Valley. Alex spent several years before this in California during his studies, where he obtained a Bachelor’s in International Security and Conflict Resolution and Master’s in Journalism. He later completed a grad program in GIS at the National University of Singapore.
From work to his free time, Alex’ appreciation for our natural world is a constant. He’s fallen in love with freediving, taking it from a recreational and competitive level. He surfs, hikes and sails whenever given the chance. A big part of his life has been diving into new countries, cultures and social surroundings, of which California and Kenya still hold a special place in his heart.
