Landscape Capital Explorer

Planning & implementing Natural Climate Solutions.

The Landscape Capital Explorer is a platform developed to support the planning and implementation of natural climate solutions (NCS) by assessing the suitability of various land areas based on a combination of biophysical quality, biophysical potential, additionality potential, and risks to performance.

The tool is designed to provide users with detailed information about different types of land, including: carbon storage capacity and potential; risks related to climate change and human activities; and additionality potential (how much impact natural climate solutions will have beyond business-as-usual scenarios).

The tool aims to provide data-driven insights that help stakeholders, such as carbon market developers, investors, and conservationists, make informed decisions about land use and climate mitigation strategies.

Integrating spatial data layers for informed climate mitigation initiatives.

Landscape Capital Explorer

Driving climate action through data-driven land use planning.

The Landscape Capital Explorer provides reliable, science-based data that helps identify high-priority areas for climate mitigation. By combining multiple datasets, the platform enables stakeholders to strategically plan NCS, leading to more informed and effective land-use decisions.

Additionally, it facilitates fundraising and partnerships by offering compelling data visualizations and analysis that showcase the platform's potential, making it an essential tool for advancing climate mitigation initiatives.

Customizable data weighting

Platform users can apply different weights to various datasets and perform scenario-based analysis.

The tool provides a comprehensive view of land’s potential, risks, and opportunities.

Supports partnerships

The tool’s clear, data-driven insights make it easier to attract funding and build partnerships for climate action initiatives.

Developing the Landscape Capital Explorer platform.

The brief.

Woodwell Climate Research Center developed a valuable data product through extensive research and wanted to ensure it reached the right audiences in an accessible and actionable way. They approached us to help bring their vision to life, creating the Landscape Capital Explorer, a platform that presents their insights with clarity and elegance. By integrating data on carbon storage, additionality, and climate risks, they aim to guide effective land-use decisions.

Our role.

We led the design and development of the initial platform prototype, ensuring it aligned with user needs and strategic objectives. Our team focused on user-centered design, conducting discovery sessions and strategic workshops to understand the specific requirements of the platform's diverse user base. By integrating multiple datasets and delivering an intuitive user experience, Vizzuality created a platform that empowered all stakeholders to make informed decisions on land use and natural climate solutions.

In addition to the design, Vizzuality helped craft compelling visualizations and communication assets to support Woodwell Climate Research Center's fundraising efforts. We combined a strong foundation in sustainability with expertise in digital design, ensuring the final product was both impactful and visually engaging.

Delivered with impact.

Elevating climate action.

The platform's ability to combine dynamic environmental data with customizable features, such as advanced filtering and tailored reports, was a noteworthy achievement. Our commitment to clear visual storytelling and engaging design not only enhanced the user experience but also made the platform an invaluable tool for driving strategic climate action.
